Day 1: We left Redding at 10:40 am (we got a bit of a late start) and hit the road. We arrived at the Nevada sign at 2:31 pm. There was quite a bit of construction on this leg of the trip.
We decided to take a scenic route through Lassen Volcanic National Park. It had been years since we drive that way. It was peaceful and beautiful. We stopped at the Nevada Border and took our picture. About three hours later we stopped at "Mr. B's Casino"-- we thought it was a "sign" (the two of us being Miss and Mrs. B) but we didn't win (we only spent $2.75 though in the slots) We saw a funny sign there: "Punkerbrush, NV. Population: 28" --We think the whole town worked at the Gas Station/Casino.
We arrived in Elko, NV about 8pm and checked into our hotel.
It was a long first day but we will have a short drive to our destination (Salt Lake City) tomorrow.
