Arizona to Vegas (Day 1 in Vegas)
Since we didn't get to stay in the Wig Wam's .. we drove by to see what we missed. They were cute! We got stuck in traffice at the Hoover Dam where we went 3 miles in 1 hour!!! It looks like they were adding another bridge at the Dam. We arrived in Vegas about 7pm and checked into our hotel (Harrah's) on the Las Vegas Strip. We took a nap, then headed out about 8:30pm. We went to the Palazzo Hotel, The Venetian--where they had Gondola's with singing gondoleers going down the water. We saw a part of the Treasure Island Show (though it was across the street). We headed back to the Hotel because it had already been a long day.

Many Days! Roswell to Las Vegas to Kettlemen City, Ca
Hello!! No.. we were not abducted by Aliens in Roswell.. it's just that we have not been able to get online. In Roswell, we could not get an Internet connection and in Las Vegas we had to pay -- so we didn't get to post anything. So... we will catch up now!!
Day 27: Roswell, NM to Las Vegas, NV
We headed into Roswell and went to the International UFO Museum. It had all of this information about the crash there, signed statements by witnesses and gov't officials. There was information about the cover up and about different types of UFO's. There was also a car show going on while we were there. But we were a few days early and were going to miss the big UFO Yearly Festival that was happening at the end of the week. But, they did the town cute with light posts to look like aliens. It was an interesting place. We hit the road about 2 pm and headed toward Arizona. We wanted to stay in the Wig Wam Hotel (but they were all booked..so sad). We settled for another hotel in Winslow, AZ and fell asleep.

There we saw the JFK Memorial, the Grassy Knoll and The Book Depository where the imfamous JFK Assassination took place. Day 24: New Orleans to Port Allen, LA
We started the day by walking down to Cafe Beignet to go on a Cemetery/Voodoo Tour. We had yummy Po Boy's for lunch! The tour started at 1 pm and the group was small. We had an entertaining tour guide "Creole Gwen" who showed us sights of New Orleans. We walked the streets down to St. Louis Cemetery #1 and saw the old New Orleans Gravesights. We saw the graves of Homer Plessy (Plessy vs. Ferguson), Bernard de Marigny (the man who made 'Craps' famous) and Marie Laveau (Voodoo Priestess). It was a HOT and HUMID day (98 plus the humidity) !!
The next part of the tour took us to a Voodoo shop where we met a Voodoo Priestess... who was to say the least-- NUTS!! Natalie thought she was planning to sacrifice our tour group and we headed out before they were finished with that part of the tour. When the tour ended, we headed back to the French Quarter. Next, we drove to the 9th ward to see how Katrina affected that part of New Orleans. Four years later, the area is still affected. There were boarded up homes, a lot of repairs still in progress and it was sad to see. Then we drove to the Garden District to see the old homes there. OF COURSE-- it started to pour rain! We then headed out of town and ended up in Port Allen (Just outside Baton Rouge) for a rest.

Day 23: Canton, Miss. to New Orleans, LA
We drove from Mississippi to Louisana in just about 4 hours. We drove on a 20 + mile bridge over a lake/swamp and arrived in New Orleans. We drove the streets and then found a hotel right in the French Quarter just a block from Jackson Square. We cooled off in the room for a bit.. it was HOT!! (The humidity is what is getting to us.) We then headed to Cafe du Monde for benigts and Coffee& Chicory. Yummmm! We walked up to see the Mississppi River and then walked the streets of the French Quarter. Next, was Pat O'Briens for some Mint Juleps and Hurricanes. We sat in the Piano Bar and listened to the Show. We next hit Bourbon St.. what an interesting sight! We had dinner at a Cajun Restaurant consisting of Alligator Bites, Red Beans / Rice, Sausage Gumbo and Jambalaya. Tomorrow we are planning on doing a Cemetary tour (they say it is more safe to do it in a tour than by yourself). We will see how long we can stand the heat today!Monday, June 22, 2009
Day 22: Memphis, TN to Canton, Mississippi
Day 22: GracelandIt was a HOT one today. We left the Heartbreak Hotel and went to Graceland. We toured the Mansion and the grounds. We also saw his car collection, airplanes and millitary items. We are planning on getting to New Orleans tomorrow. The first half of the trip was a lot of rain and now we are getting the opposite with a lot of HEAT in the South.
